Tasted: Eat Water Slim Penne

An interesting alternative for those watching their weight but who don’t want to give up pasta. More bite than pasta but neutral enough for the flavours of your chosen sauce to shine through.

The Product:
The Eat Water Slim range consists of different types of pasta such as spaghetti, noodles, lasagne etc. and also rice. The products are low calorie and made from the high fibre konjac plant which has been consumed in Asia for centuries for it’s health benefits. It’s said to slow digestion and promote a feeling of fullness in the stomach as well as lowering cholesterol. The Eat Water Slim Penne has 94% less calories than traditional penne.

The Verdict:
I eat very little pasta, I’m more of a rice or quinoa fan and I’m quite fond of raw pasta such as noodles made with spiralised courgette. I was interested to try this though particularly as it takes just a few minutes to prepare. You need to make sure you rinse it well to get rid of it’s characteristic fishy smell when you open the packet. Taste wise it’s very neutral though and it soaks up the flavours of your favourite pesto or pasta sauce. The texture is noticeably different to pasta with more bite to it. A pack serves 1-2 and it did fill me up but I ate the whole pack myself with veggies and pesto. If you were adding a protein to it then it would probably go further.
