I’ve tasted Mackie’s Honey Mustard Crisps… should you put a pack in the trolley or leave them on the shelf?

Mackie’s Honey Mustard Crisps blurb reads:  The original request for this flavour came from our customers in Singapore where Honey Mustard is an established market favourite. We think that you will like the combination of sharp mustard and sweet honey in Mackie’s own variation of this Eastern flavour.

OK: Honey and mustard is a classic flavour combo, but its appeal in crisps is less obvious. Does the sweetness of honey work with salty potato, and is the mustard strong enough to be more than an afterthought?

The tasting note: These crisps deliver. It’s a taste for the mustard lover, for sure – that ingredient has plenty of punch here, and it’s the key to these crisps’ appeal. The honey is really nicely balanced, and the sweetness does work well. As for the crisps themselves, they’re thick, dry rather than greasy, and clearly good quality.

The full ingredient list: Potatoes, sunflower oil, honey mustard seasoning (sugar, honey powder, sea salt, onion powder, rice flour, spices (including mustard), garlic powder, yeast extract powder, malt vinegar, natural flavouring, citric acid, natural colours; paprika and turmeric extract.

Can you eat it? Suitable for vegetarians, contains mustard.

Should you put it in the trolley? Potent mustard, sweet honey and great quality crisps – these are a treat for mustard lovers.

Mackie’s Crispy Bacon Potato Crisps
This is simulated bacon taste, not the real stuff – so it’s veggie-friendly. A good quality crisp with lots of flavour. Tasted by Veggie Tom.

Mackie’s Dippers
The flavour pouch is a nice idea, but its slightly dried/powdery taste (even when stirred into sour cream) lets down these good quality crisps. Tasted by Veggie Tom.
