You don’t have to be Gordon Ramsay or Heston Blumenthal to bake these snack-on sausage rolls with an apple lick. Not only are they easy to make, they are free from those additives and preservatives that ensure prolonged shelf life!
If your partner’s not Delia Smith, then get your apron on and make them yourself! They’ll only take thirty minutes. Moreover, if you’re watching Manchester City play Manchester United tonight… they will be perfect to snack-on while Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney grab the goals!
12 Sausage Rolls
Sharp kitchen knife
Apple peeler & corer
Ingredients for our twelve sausage rolls with subtle apple twist:
225g Puff pastry
225g Pork sausage meat
10g approx. Plain flour (for rolling out the puff pastry and the sausage)
I Cooking apple (Bramley)
Seasoning (salt & pepper)
1 tbls milk
Now the Ingredients for a pack of Walls Sausage Rolls
- Stabiliser (E450(i)
- Stabiliser E450(iii)
- Glucose syrup
- Potato starch
- Vegetable oil
- Yeast extract
- Pepper extract
- Milk proteins
- Herb extracts
- Dried onion
- Pork fat (3%)
- Pork (28%)
- Wheat flour
To remove any dishwasher or cupboard odours, give the baking tray a quick rinse in hot water – no soap.
Heat the oven to gas mark 8 or 230C.
Peel and core the apple.
Finely grate (this becomes a mushy paste) the apple into small bowl
Pour tbsp of milk into a cup
Dust your rolling pin and the kitchen surface where you’re going to roll the pastry with the plain flour.
With the sharp kitchen knife cut the puff pastry in half.
Now roll both halves of the puff pastry into two 3inch (7.5cm) strips.
Divide the sausage meat in half.
On the floured surface roll out each half of the sausage meat.
With the spatula spread the grated apple paste very thinly over the upside of the sausage meat.
Now with floured hands roll the each half of the sausage meat to the length of the rolled out puff pastry, keeping the thin scrape of apple paste in the middle.
Season with quick grind of sea salt & black pepper
Now place each rolled sausage in the middle of the puff pastry strip.
To seal the pastry, quickly dip the pastry brush into the cup of milk and paint the side edges of each puff pastry strip.
Bring the edges together and seal with a finger and thumb pinch.
Now with the sharp knife cut each roll into six.
Along the top of each roll cut three small holes. This is to let the air out.
Place on the baking tray and brush the twelve sausage rolls with milk.
Now put loaded baking tray in the oven and bake for around 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve them warm or cold. Enjoy.
