Should you pay the extra cash and put the Marmite X O (Extra Old), rather than the cheaper regular version in the trolley?
Shoppers that buy and drink super-premium Brandies will be familiar with the XO letters and that Extra Old simply means that the spirit has spent more years in the barrel gathering extra layers of flavour over a Very Special (VS) or a Very Special Old Pale (VSOP), brandy. However, in the food industry though, the word ‘Old’ is associated with being out-of-date. For that reason, most food products use the term ‘Extra Matured’ rather than Extra Old. Marmite XM (Extra Matured or Extra Marmite) might have been more food-shopper friendly!
What’s the difference over regular Marmite?
Marmite XO has been matured for four times longer than Marmite. Like Extra Matured Cheddar Cheese and Cognac XO the flavour is more concentrated and complex with its extra ageing.
What does this Marmite X O contain?
The ingredients are same as regular Marmite: Yeast Extract, Salt, Vegetable Extract, Niacin, Thiamin, Spice Extracts (contains Celery), Riboflavin, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12
Should you put it trolley?
Gram for gram it’s just over a quid more than the regular version. Is it worth the extra premium? The XO makes regular Marmite seem bland! If you relish the taste of Marmite the XO is a must try and buy. Put it in the trolley.
