I’ve tasted Linda McCartney Italian Vegetarian Sausages… should you put a pack in the trolley or leave them on the shelf?
Linda McCartney Italian Vegetarian Sausages blurb reads: Vegetarian sausage made from soya protein, with mozzarella, red pepper, onion, courgette, oregano & parsley. Simply serve with a green leaf salad, chopped black olives, vine tomatoes and chunks of oven-roasted ciabatta.
OK: I really rate Linda McCartney sausages – they’ve got a lovely texture and fantastic, savoury flavour. But variety’s the spice of life, and these Italian-inspired sausages give you an extra option for barbecue season. The question is: do they taste good?
The tasting note: The certainly do taste good, but it’s more to do with the superb Linda McCartney sausage than the added flavours. Tomato and herbs work well together and their presence makes a nice change here, but it’s not a classic – I’d like more red pepper, more cheese and fresher-tasting seasoning.

Mozzarella cheese? Be careful with mozzarella – it’s not vegetarian by default. Like many cheeses, animal rennet has been used in its production, though the availability of the veggie-friendly cheese is always increasing. You can usually trust a dedicated veggie brand like Linda McCartney, but otherwise, check the label.
Can you eat it? Perfect for vegetarians, but the mozzarella cheese means it’s not suitable for vegans or others avoiding dairy.
Should you put it in the trolley? Linda McCartney sausages are top notch and the combination of herb and tomato works well – though I’d like them even more if those flavours tasted less dried and more fresh.
