Asda Moroccan Spiced Vegetable Quarter Pounders blurb reads: 1 of 5 a day per burger. Perfect for the BBQ. No artificial colours, flavours or hydrogenated fat. Vegetarian Society approved. Chickpeas and peppers blended to perfection with a sprinkle of our exotic spiced fruit seasoning.
OK: Worthy ingredients, innovative products, interesting flavours… what has changed at Asda HQ? The supermarket’s revamped veggie frozen range now has plenty to offer – but how do these “Morrocan spiced” burgers stack up?
The tasting note: These are not bad at all. The fact that chickpeas make up more than a quarter of the ingredients is very much a good thing from a nutrition, taste and texture standpoint, and the sultanas and apricots… well, they’re OK. A bit heavy on the cinnamon and cloves, though.
The full ingredient list: Chickpeas (27%) , Onions (11%) , Dried Potato (9.8%), Red Peppers (9.2%) , Tomatoes , Green Peppers (7.3%) , Sunflower Oil , Seasoning [Dried Apples, Sugar, Sultanas, Salt, Dried Apricots, Cinnamon, Cloves, Ground Cumin, Chilli Peppers, Garlic Powder, Paprika, Sunflower Oil, White Pepper, Mint, Yeast Extract, Oregano, Parsley, Preservative (Sulphur Dioxide)] , Water , Carrots , Wheat Flour , Tomato Pureé

Should you put it in the trolley? Not the tastiest veggie burger on the shelf, but these are pretty good all the same – if a bit heavy on the cinnamon.
