I’ve tasted Jamie’s Rosso Italian… should you put bottle in the trolley or leave it on the shelf?
Jamie’s Rosso Italian blurb reads: ‘This robust, fruity red is bursting with ripe plum and cherry flavours. With its soft tannins and brilliant punchy finish, we think it’s so good you should just enjoy it on its own but it’s also delicious with any tomato based pasta sauces, pizzas and red meat dishes. It’s been delighting diners in Jamie’s Italian for several seasons, and is grown on the sunny slopes of Sicily by a local wine collective founded more than 50 years ago’
OK: Jamie’s Italian wines are not stoppered with a cork, but are closed with a metal screwcap, they are made from a blend of grapes rather than from just one, and are priced at a grape under eight quid a bottle, Not cheap, but that’s very affordable for most wine drinkers. Of course, Jamie name is on the front label, and I’m sure he has been involved in the process, but it’s Owen Bird, the winemaker, at the Sicilian winery that should take the bow for making and blending Jamie’s wines. So keep them coming Jamie and making them Owen, for drinkable wines at under ten quid from Italy, are always a welcome addition to the wine shelves, especially, when so many are rarely worth that second sip..
The tasting note: Want a flavoursome red that’s an easy drinker? Jamie’s Rosso delivers those qualities in grapes. Grab a bottle or two, your wine loving mates won’t be impressed with the label, but they’ll will love the wine. On the shelves at Tesco very soon!
Can you drink it? Nothing in the tecci blurb to say if it is vegan or veggie friendly. This is something that should be addressed Jamie.
Should you put it in the trolley? Absolutely, provided the style and price fits
