Tasted: Alpro Unsweetened Almond Milk 1 Litre

By Vegan Caroline
A pleasant tasting and versatile plant milk with roasted almond flavours and just a hint of sea salt.

The Product:
Alpro are one of the leading brands in plant milk products. In 2012 they launched a range of nut milks as an alternative to soya. The milks are versatile working well in drinks, in baking and on cereal. The latest in the range is an unsweetened version of the almond milk which is available in both fresh and longlife versions.

The Verdict:
I tasted the fresh version and found it enjoyable. It’s very palatable on it’s own as a glass of cold milk with cookies, works well in a chocolate cake and also in porridge. I found myself adding a little more to tea than I might add of soya milk to get it to a colour I liked but it tasted good. However, I couldn’t get it not to curdle in coffee even when heated. You can taste the hint of sea salt which is especially nice in hot chocolate. The main flavour though is of freshly roasted almonds. This would be a good milk to try if you are new to plant milks and unsure where to start with them.
