Italiamo Arborio Risotto Rice? Most shoppers won’t have heard of the ‘Italiamo’ brand. Why? It is one of LIDL’s many made-up names that they put on their own-label products to give them the look and feel of brand rather than a supermarket own brand! But who cares? I don’t! To me, Arborio rice is Arborio rice – the name on the packet has no relevance at all – it is all about the price! And… at £1.50 for 1Kg – makes this risotto rice a must buy for the savvy-shopper!
The product:
Arborio rice has a plumb stubby grain and a high starch content that gives it the ability to absorb sauces and condiments which in turn produces a creamy risotto with an ‘al dente’ bite. Works well for traditional and vegetable risottos.
The verdict:
Italiamo Arborio is a classic risotto rice, not as plump as Carnaroli risotto rice when cooked, but if you want to make a traditional or vegetable risotto – it is the one to use. If you are Lidl shopper and you require risotto rice? Put a pack in the trolley.
