This is a great value veggie sandwich meat filling which classic sage and onion flavours.
Faux meat products have come a long way in the last few years. Whilst they aren’t always identical to the real thing especially in the case of things like bacon, the textures and flavours are improving all the time making them enjoyable products in their own right. We’re even seeing some products marketed to meat eaters as a healthy alternative to try rather than them being the sole preserve of veggies. Most faux meat products are made from seitan otherwise known as vital wheat gluten flour. The high gluten content is what gives the meaty texture and the products are then flavoured with herbs and spices.
The protein content of my diet tends to come more from nuts, beans and soya but I do enjoy faux meats on occasion such as with a roast dinner, on a pizza, with a salad platter or in this case on a sandwich. The slices are cut wafer thin which prevents them from seeming like too much gluten when put between two slices of bread. The sage and onion flavours work really well with a slick of mustard and some salad garnish. Price wise these slices are at the lower price end for faux meat products and represent good value for money.
