A premium cup noodle is a lovely idea – and I like the thick udon noodles in this Itsu pot. But the sour tomato flavour just doesn’t quite work.
Posh Pot Noodle? It’d be unfair to brand these stylish Itsu pots with that title because they’re a different beast altogether – instant soups made with thick, fresh udon noodles, a space paste and some freeze dried veg. So how do they shape up?
I like the idea of these. The noodles are pleasantly glutinous and adding the spice paste feels more gourmet than purely reconstituting powder (though a lot of the paste sticks to the inside of the sachet). But the balance is off – a sour, intense tomatoey flavour overrides any spicing subtleties, and the courgettes stay a bit too chewy. There’s promise here, but it needs work.

Pot Noodle Beef & Tomato
There’s something moreish about the sauce – the MSG, probably. But it’s too sweet, the noodles are too greasy and it doesn’t fill you up like proper food. Tasted By Veggie Tom.
King Soba Organic Pumpkin, Ginger & Brown Rice Noodles
