Never mind as a meat substitute, this versatile, spicy slicing sausage is a great product in it’s own right.
The Vegandeli range of slicing sausages are manufactured by a company called Bute Island who are best known for being a leading developer in vegan cheese products. They manufacture a wide range under their own label Scheese and are also the producers for Tesco’s vegan cheese range.
Whilst not being as widely available as their cheese range these slicing sausages are absolutely worth seeking out. I was really impressed with the three products that I tried with the Chorizo style just inching in front as my favourite. It’s nicely spiced and I’d recommend using it in the same way you would a meat based chorizo – on pizza, in a sandwich or diced in a paella. I’m sometimes wary of giving meat substitutes to non veggie friends but I’d have no hesitation with this. Definitely something to try if you’re curious about trying a veggie diet and looking for transition products.
