Tasted: Lucy Bee Extra Virgin Organic Raw Coconut Oil 500ml

By Vegan Caroline
Really versatile healthy oil. Great for all your cooking and baking needs and can even be used as part of hair and skincare routines.

The Product:
Coconut oil is hailed as the new wonder oil. It can be used to replace oils, butters and margarines in cooking and baking and is also suitable for use on the hair and skin, even as a make up remover. It’s health claims are that it’s made up of medium chain fatty acids which the body can digest and metabolise easily. It’s high in lauric acid which is full of health boosting antiviral and antibacterial qualities and which is also found in breast milk.

The Verdict:
Don’t be put of if you don’t like coconut. Whilst there’s a definite coconut aroma when it’s heating up because  this is a raw extra virgin oil there’s no overpowering coconut taste in your food. I loved it’s versatility and have used it for frying and roasting to good effect. Although it’s more expensive than oil it’s well worth trying it in baking too as it adds a fantastic texture to cakes and makes some of the best frosting I’ve ever tasted. I even works spread onto toast. This brand has the extra selling point of being Fair Trade and the jar labels are easy to remove encouraging reuse of the jars.
