Tastes more like an alcoholic juice than a wine. An easy drinking beverage on it’s own or paired with chocolate.
Chocolate Drop is a British wine product made from a blend of imported red grape juice and dark chocolate flavours. It promises aromas of dark chocolate and black cherry with notes of mocha and vanilla and is advertised as a sweet wine ideal to pair with chocolate.
Alcohol wise it’s similar to other European reds at 12 ABV but tastes more like a juice than an alcoholic beverage. There’s no complexity with the over riding flavour being chocolate. This is one of those products that’s like Marmite. Everyone I know who’s tried it has loved it or hated it. If you’re expecting it to taste like a chocolatey Shiraz you’ll find it far from the mark. There’s much better dessert wines around but you won’t really find any retailing at this sub £5 mark. The label recommends trying it with a casserole but it’s so sweet I can’t see that working. For an easy drinking novelty beverage to pair with chocolate at this low price point it’s worth a try.
