The Product: Traditionally a staple part of the diet of the citizens of Peru, these days quinoa is becoming much more widely known. Although it’s a grain it’s also a complete protein, full of vitamins and gluten and cholesterol free. Quinola Mothergrain sell both Fair traded dried quinoa in red, black and pearl varieties and convenient ready to eat quinoa pouches. They even produce baby and children’s ranges.
The Verdict: I found the dried quinoa really easy to prepare by simply cooking it in water for 15 minutes. Unlike some other brands I’ve tried the texture was really light and fluffy. I like to use quinoa in salads and I found it absorbed flavours from dressings really well. The red quinoa has lovely lightly nutty flavours and I’ll definitely be searching out the black and pearl varieties to try.
