A few years back, Ludlow in Shropshire, used to be the destination for foodies, but now it is Marlow in Bucks. Residents of the pretty village of Bray in Berkshire boast that they have 7 Michelin stars: The Waterside Inn 3 stars, The Fat Duck 3 stars and Hinds Head 1 star, but outside these blue-chip dining establishments, the village does not offer much else, whereas Marlow has the foodie vibe from the moment you step off the train.
Bray & Marlow can thank their recent foodie popularity to two celebrity chefs: Heston Blumenthal & Tom Kerridge. Heston struts his stuff in Bray with the Fat Duck & the Hinds Head Pub , but Kerridge rules the roost in Marlow with his 2 starred Michelin Hand of Flowers pub, The 1 star Michelin Coach, small portion eatery, The Butcher’s Tap, butchers serving beer & food, and his yearly food & music extravaganza the ‘Pub in the Park’ which takes place on 12-15 May on the banks of the Thames at Marlow’s Higginson Park.
This year it has 14 award-winning and Michelin-starred pubs and restaurants. The star line-up of pop-up stalls include Tom Kerridge’s The Hand of Flowers, The Coach, Made in Oldstead by Tommy Banks, The Mariners Public House by Paul Ainsworth, London sensation Hoppers and The Star Inn from Andrew Pern, Atul Kochhar’s. The Restaurants, The Coach, The Bull & Last, The Beehive, Cue Point and many more…
And for music lovers there is performances from Rag ‘N’ Bone Man, McFly, Melanie C, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Sister Sledge, The Feeling, Faithless, The Cuban Brothers, Happy Mondays, Huey Morgan DJ set over the four days.
