The Product Chocolate is one of those things that can be awkward for the nut allergy sufferer, although it is getting easier and easier to find. Mainstream companies produce chocolate that is relatively safe but even if no nuts are declared, there is always a risk of cross-contamination from other lines. The only way to be absolutely sure that your chocolate is safe is to look at a nut-free supplier.
Enter BeyondDark. Their chocolate bills itself as free from nuts, wheat, gluten and dairy, so safe for a wide variety of allergies. The company aimed to produce a chocolate which was very rich in antioxidants and their website claims that this makes their product ‘a health positive indulgence’.
The Verdict At 70% dark chocolate this will appeal primarily to adults, which is a pleasant change from the normal nut-free chocolates. The plain and orange flavours work much better than the raspberry variant, which feels soapy in texture and aftertaste. It is hard to know how seriously they intend any health aspects to be taken – the antioxidant line is pushed quite hard on their website but sensibly there is no mention of this being ‘health positive’ on the packet itself.
Ignoring the health aspect, this is a good tasty dark chocolate which adults will enjoy, and caters for those with nut, wheat, gluten and dairy allergies.
