Tasted: Olives Et Al Egyptian Style Spiced Dukkah Aromatic Rub

By Vegan Caroline
If you are familiar with Egyptian cuisine it’s likely that you’re familiar with Dukkah. The name means to crush or pound and it’s an aromatic blend of spices and nuts.

The Product:
My research showed me that traditionally people make up their own personal Dukkah blends varying the nuts and spices used. This Great Taste Award winner from Olives Et Al features almonds and hazelnuts as the choice of nuts alongside sesame, coriander and cumin seeds. Traditionally it’s used as a rub for meat or fish but it also can be used in veggie dishes or simply as a dip with bread and olive oil.

The Verdict:
This was my first experience with Dukkah and I enjoyed experimenting with it. I used it sprinkled on roasted vegetables, in hummus and as a rub for grilled tofu. Next time I make a roast dinner I’m going to try it on roast potatoes too. As someone with a mild chilli allergy it’s great to find something spicy without chilli in the blend. I was also impressed by how far it went. You’ll get lots of meals from one jar.
