I’ve tasted the Choco Philly… should you put it in the trolley or leave it on the shelf?
Please will you try this? No! Why? It sounds disgusting! Philadelphia is for spreading on toasted bagels then loaded with smoked salmon – end of! If you concur with the opinion of my twelve year old daughter then you’ll leave it on the shelf, but the below may just change your mind.
‘Choco Philly’ or ‘Philadelphia Light Philly with Cadbury Milk Chocolate’. As with Gordon’s Gin & Schweppes Tonic this is a combination of two very blue chip brands. However, unlike the tried and trusted combination of Gin & tonic this cream cheese and chocolate combination is a little ‘off the wall’! Or is it?
Shoppers buy trolley loads of chocolate cheesecake without thinking it’s weird or disgusting. The shelves are loaded with milk and chocolate combinations – and that’s just what Choco Philly is. This chocolate cheese spread then is not so ‘off the wall’. But what does it look and taste like?
Pull off the lid and peel back the foil and you have a cheese spread that is the colour of milk chocolate. The taste is not cheese like, but more akin to a chocolate spread. Why include the cream cheese then? The main purpose of the cream cheese is not for its flavour, but for its ability to add spreadability and palate cleansing acidity to the chocolate.
Has it worked? Yes. Choco Philly is a well-crafted a silky smooth chocolate spread that tantalises your tastebuds with its creamy cocoa flavour and finely threaded acidity. It certainly has that ‘I must have another and another mouthful’ quality.
Love creamy chocolate – Put it in the trolley!
